TAMPA -- A woman is suing an apartment complex and its management company after death of a man at the complex.

Charlotte Lewis, as Personal Representative of the Estate of Jahill Lewis, filed a complaint on September 20 in Hillsborough County Circuit Court against Cypress Trace Associates and Cornerstone Residential Management, LLC for negligence.

According to the complaint, on Jan. 20, 2021, Jahill was a resident of Cypress Trace Apartments when he was shot and killed within the apartments. Charlotte alleges that it is at the negligence and fault of the apartment complex and the management company for not protecting its residents.

Charlotte alleges that the apartments had a duty to maintain a reasonably safe location and knew that numerous violent criminal acts including, but not limited to, aggravated assaults, batteries, and robberies had occurred at Cypress Trace Apartments and areas adjacent thereto and attacks were reasonably likely in the future.

Lewis is represented by Shelby R. Walton of The Haggard Law Firm, PA.
