ORLANDO -- A man is suing Ford after allegedly being injured by metal shrapnel from an exploding airbag.
Freddie Whitehead III filed a complaint on July 6 in Orange County Circuit Court against Ford Motor Company and Carlisle Motors, LLC d/b/a "Auto Nation Ford St. Petersburg" for strict liability, negligence and negligent performance of recall.
According to the complaint, Whitehead was in his 2010 Ford Fusion SE when he suffered injuries after his PSDI-5D Takata airbag exploded and shot metal shrapnel into his body after a low-speed vehicle collision on June 20, 2020. Whitehead alleges that following an investigation of the incident and of the Ford Fusion, it was discovered that the Takata airbag inflator installed in the Ford Fusion was defective and unreasonably dangerous under Florida law, and that this condition directly caused Whitehead's severe injuries, the suit says.
Whitehead seeks actual damages, consequential damages, economic damages, non-economic damages, attorney's fees and cost of suit. Whitehead is represented by Andrew Parker Felix and Steven E. Nauman.
