State Court

TAMPA -- A man is suing a police department for excessive use of force.

Juan Junior Baez II filed a complaint on July 7 in Hillsborough County Circuit Court against Seminole Tribe of Florida d/b/a Seminole Police Department.

According to the complaint, on August 27, 2019, Baez and his girlfriend were at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Tampa, when Baez and his girlfriend had a disagreement about whether to stay and continue to gamble at the casino for a while longer, or to go home.

Casino security and the Seminole Police Department were called to handle the dispute. Baez alleges that the police department unnecessarily used a taser to subdue him three times, which resulted in him suffering from a seizure. Baez alleges that when the officers went to help him get on his feet and put him into a police car, he was then caused to hit his head on the metal floor and threshold of the car door.

Baez seeks a response to general discovery in the case. Baez is represented by Rook Elizabeth Ringer of Lento Law Group, P.A.
