TAMPA -- A woman's lawsuit claims she was unable to walk on a sidewalk into a nursing home due to a vehicle blocking the entrance, which ended up in her leg being impaled.

Alice D. Corteau filed a complaint on May 12 in the Thirteenth Judicial Circuit in and for Hillsborough County Civil Division against Hillsborough County Fire Rescue Foundation, Inc. FL-Carrollwood Care, LLC, and CHR Tampa Carrollwood LLC for negligence.

According to the complaint, Corteau was attempting to visit her husband at the FL-Carrollwood Care center, when an ambulance owned and operated by the Hillsborough County Fire Rescue Foundation, Inc. was blocking the entrance.

In front of the entrance of the nursing home, a sign stating "Do not block sidewalk" existed. The ambulance was blocking the entrance, causing Corteau to allegedly have to take an alternative path through mulched landscaping to attempt entrance into the building and "her right leg was impaled by a jagged, sharp metal pole that was sticking out of the ground."

Corteau alleges that both the nursing home and ambulance service "failed to maintain or adequately maintain the sidewalk and/or pathway to the entrance of the facility" and therefore failed to exercise reasonable safety for Corteau.

Corteau seeks medical expenses for the treatment of injuries including pain and suffering and attorney's fees and costs for suit. Corteau is represented by James R. Wilson of Morgan and Morgan.
