TALLAHASSEE - A woman accuses Florida State University of conspiring to corrupt her professional basketball career in an April 2 Leon County Circuit Court lawsuit.

The allegations come from plaintiff Iho Lopez, who played basketball for the university from 2017 to 2019. During her last season, Lopez was struck by a car while riding home on her scooter and was injured.

Lopez accuses the university of intentionally dodging the full proper diagnosis process in order to give Lopez a medical disqualification from the team so that someone else could be put on the roster.

The defendant's physician told Lopez she was medically disqualified from the team for having an injury that was not recoverable; however, after seeking outside advice, Lopez underwent a surgery and rehabilitation to amend her injury, and was cleared to start playing basketball again without restriction, the suit says.

The university is sued for negligence and breach of contract; Lopez is represented by Collins and Truett Attorneys PA of Doral.
