CLEARWATER — A Pinellas County man is suing a St. Petersburg church, alleging negligence led to injuries for the plaintiff.

Anthony Marquez filed a complaint Jan. 3 in Pinellas County Circuit Court against First United Methodist Church of St. Petersburg Inc., alleging failure to provide a safe and secure environment.

According to the complaint, on Jan. 3, 2015, while Marquez was doing volunteer work at the church, 212 Third St. N., St. Petersburg, he slipped and fell near the men's restroom. The suit says the fall caused Marquez significant injuries and damages, including injuries, bruises, cuts and scratches, about his head, neck, back, hands, wrists, arms, legs, feet, ankles, spine and/or nervous system.

The suit alleges Marquez sustained great mental and physical pain, suffering, anguish, embarrassment, humiliation, and expenses for medical care and treatment.

The plaintiff alleges First United Methodist Church of St. Petersburg failed to properly maintain the premises in and about the men’s restroom, and failed to warn visitors of the dangerous condition.

Marquez seeks trial by jury, judgment in excess of $15,000, exclusive of interest and costs. He is represented by attorney Thomas M. Woodruff of Woodruff Injury Law in St. Petersburg.
