CLEARWATER — A personal representative is suing St. Petersburg senior living facility operators, alleging negligence in the death of a resident.

Kandy M. Burress, as personal representative of the estate of Patricia J. Spriggs, filed a complaint Nov. 20 in Pinellas County Circuit Court against St. Petersburg Operator LL, Brentwood Senior Living at St. Pete, et al, alleging failure to provide services within the prevailing professional standards of health care.

According to the complaint, during Spriggs' residency at Brentwood Senior Living at St. Pete, she suffered multiple falls that resulted in a chest wall contusion, right fourth and fifth rib fractures, a left seventh rib fracture, and a right humeral head, neck fracture and acute kidney injury. The suit says all of these contributed to her death June 11, 2017.

The plaintiff alleges the defendants failed to provide a safe environment, failed to protect Burgess from falling and being injured and failed to monitor significant signs and symptoms of change in her condition.

Burress seeks trial by jury, damages of more than $15,000, plus all other appropriate relief. She is represented by attorneys Lisa M. Tanaka and Rainey C. Booth of Wilkes & McHugh PA in St. Petersburg.
