CLEARWATER — A customer is suing Macy's, alleging negligence led to injuries.

Odessa Williams filed a complaint Sept. 6 in Pinellas County Circuit Court against Macy's Florida Stores LLC, alleging failure to maintain the property in a reasonably safe condition so as not to expose the public to bodily injury or harm.

According to the complaint, on March 8, 2017, Williams was an invitee on the Macy's property, 22nd Avenue North, St. Petersburg, when she tripped and fell on a piece of metal protruding from the ground/sidewalk directly in the entry/exit area of one of the entrances to the department store.

As a result, Williams says she sustained bodily injuries, disability and mental anguish, plus the expense of hospitalization, medical and nursing care treatment.

The plaintiff alleges Macy's Florida Stores failed to properly maintain the property when it knew or should have known that the protruding metal would create a hazard for business invitees and/or patrons.

Williams seeks trial by jury and damages in excess of $15,000. She is represented by attorney Jeffrey K. Chambers of Chambers Law Group PA in St. Petersburg.
