Customer alleges pet store's negligence led to fall on loose rug

CLEARWATER — A Pinellas County woman is suing a Largo pet store, alleging negligence caused her to suffer injuries.

Barbara Poirier filed a complaint Aug. 24 in Pinellas County Circuit Court against Petsmart Inc., alleging the pet store created and allowed a dangerous condition to exists on the store floor.

According to the complaint, on April 31, 2014, Poirier was at the Petsmart store on Ulmerton Road in Largo for the purpose of purchasing items for her pet. Poirer says she walked toward the exit door to leave when she tripped on a loose rug that had created a fall hazard. 

As a result, the suit says, Poirier fell and sustained bodily injury, pain and suffering, mental anguish and has incurred substantial medical expenses for treatment and care. 

The plaintiff alleges Petsmart failed to provide a safe environment for a business invitee to walk on, failed to keep the premises in a safe and proper condition and failed to warn of the dangerous condition.

Poirier seeks trial by jury, damages of more than $15,000.00, plus costs and all other just relief. She is represented by attorney Calvin Robinson of The Robinson Law Group PLLC in St. Petersburg.
