CLEARWATER — A Pinellas County woman is suing a Clearwater shopping mall, alleging negligence and failure to warn led to her daughter suffering burns.

Melody Lagreca, individually and as natural parent of Lauren Greca, a minor, filed a complaint July 27 in Pinellas Circuit Court against Westfield, LLC, doing business as Westfield Countryside, alleging the defendant allowed a dangerous condition to exist on its premises with full knowledge that the general public could be harmed.

According to the complaint, on Oct. 14, 2017, Lauren Lagreca was a business invitee at the defendant's shopping mall. The suit says that as Lagreca sat at a phone charging table across from the food court, the necklace she was wearing made contact with the electrical outlet, leaving electrical burns around the girl's neck.

As a result, Lauren Lagreca suffered permanent scaring and other injuries not yet diagnosed, the suit says.

The plaintiff alleges Westfield Countryside failed to maintain the premises in a reasonably safe condition, failed to correct the unreasonably dangerous condition created by the placement of the electrical outlet and failed to warn of the unreasonably dangerous condition created by the placement of the electrical outlets.

Melody Lagreca seeks trial by jury, compensatory damages in excess of $15,000, exclusive of interest, court costs and prejudgment interest on medical expenses incurred. She is represented by attorney Jason K. Whittemore of Wagner McLaughlin PA in Tampa.
