Mother of minor accuses taekwondo center of sexual abuse

Asbestos 05

CLEARWATER — A mother of a minor is suing a Pinellas County taekwondo center and its employee, alleging negligence, battery and sexual abuse.

Melissa Taylor filed a complaint May 2 in Pinellas County Circuit Court against Oh's Traditional Taekwondo Center Inc., Myung Oh and Andrew Jin Kim, alleging the defendants failed to protect a minor under their care.

According to the complaint, between 2013 and 2015, her minor daughter was an enrolled student at Traditional Taekwondo Center in Seminole. The suit says Jin Kim continually and intentionally sexually abused and molested her daughter. As a result, Taylor says her daughter suffered bodily injuries, psychological injuries, severe and extreme emotional distress and loss of self-esteem.

The plaintiff alleges the defendants failed to exercise reasonable care to students in the selection, hiring, training and supervision of their teachers and breached a non-delegable duty to keep premises in a reasonably safe condition.

Taylor seeks trial by jury, damages in excess of $15,000, exclusive of costs, interest, attorney fees and all other legal relief the court deems appropriate. She is represented by Jocelyn Santana of Goldberg & Rosen, PA in Miami.
