ORLANDO — An Orlando resident is suing an insurance company, alleging breach of contract.
Alba Lopez filed a complaint Feb. 15 in Orange County Circuit Court against American Traditions Insurance Company, alleging failure to cover property damage from a hurricane.
According to the complaint, on Sept. 10, 2017, while Lopez's policy was in full force and effect, she discovered her property at 5748 Port Concorde Lane, Orlando, had suffered building damage as a result of winds from Hurricane Irma. Although American Traditions defendant was given prompt notice of the loss, the suit says it wrongfully denied the plaintiff's claim.
The plaintiff alleges American Traditions Insurance failed to do an adequate inspection of the property and make full payment of Lopez's insurance benefits.
Lopez seeks trial by jury, damages of more than $15,000, prejudgment interest, statutory attorney fees and court costs. She is represented by attorneys Scott M. Janowitz and Gilberto J. Barreto of Janowitz & Barreto PLLC in Coral Gables.
