Orlando couple alleges insurer failed to cover water damage

Insurance 07

ORLANDO — An Orlando couple is suing an insurance company, alleging breach of contract.

Pablo and Navidad Ozuna filed a complaint Feb. 8 in Orange County Circuit Court against Security First Insurance Company, alleging failure to cover water damage.

According to the complaint, on July 28, 2017, Pablo and Navidad Ozuna suffered a property loss at 4532 Balboa Drive, Orlando, due to water discharge in the kitchen resulting from a leaking faucet. The suit says their property was still insured by Security First but the defendant has refused to provide full coverage, despite the plaintiffs' compliance with all conditions precedent to recovering insurance benefits.

The plaintiffs allege Security First Insurance refused to honor its contractual obligations and tendered payment that is insufficient to repair the Ozunas' damaged property.

The Ozunas seek trial by jury, damages between $5,000 and $15,000, plus court costs, prejudgment interest and attorney fees. They are represented by attorneys Hunter Patterson and Alicia Perez of Strems Law Firm in Winter Park.
