ORLANDO — An Orlando homeowner is suing an insurance company, alleging breach of contract.
Victor Rivera filed a complaint Jan. 22 in Orange Count yCircuit Court against Universal Insurance Company of North America, alleging failure to pay for damages caused by a hurricane.
According to the complaint, on Sept. 11, 2017, Rivera's property at 1010 Calanda Ave., Orlando, was damaged by Hurricane Irma. However, the suit says, Universal Insurance has failed to pay full value for roofing and/or construction services necessary for the repair of Rivera's dwelling.
The plaintiff alleges Universal Insurance of North America refused to adequately reimburse Rivera for the damages, and breached its obligations under the terms of the insurance policy.
Rivera seeks trial by jury, damages of at least $15,000 for all unpaid and overdue insurance benefits with interest, court costs, attorney fees and all other remedies the court grants. He is represented by attorney Francisco E. Serrano of Cohen Law Group in Maitland.
