Mother blames Wal-Mart for child's injuries

Slip02

ORLANDO — A mother is suing Wal-Mart, alleging the store's negligence caused injuries to her child.

Yavian Castro, through his parent, Vanessa Orengo, filed a complaint Jan. 2 in Orange County Circuit Court against Wal-Mart Stores Inc. alleging failure to provide a safe environment for its business invitees.

According to the complaint, on Jan. 3, 2014, Orengo and her minor child, Yavian Castro, were in a Wal-Mart store, 9518 Montello Drive, Orlando. The suit says Orengo's son slipped due to the water that was allowed to remain on the floor of the defendant's premises.

The lawsuit states as a result of Wal-Mart's negligence, the child sustained serious bodily injuries, plus pain and suffering.

The plaintiff alleges Wal-Mart Stores failed to warn Castro about the existing dangers of the premises, failed its duty to maintain and supervise the premises where the accident occurred, and allowed a dangerous condition to exist.

Orengo seeks trial by jury, damages in excess of $15,000, exclusive of interest and court costs. She is represented by attorney R. Lee Dorough of Orlando.
