Cyclist blames motorist for collision, injuries

CLEARWATER — A Pinellas County cyclist is suing a motorist, alleging negligence caused injuries.

Rachel Applefield filed a complaint Dec. 6 in Pinellas Circuit Court against Colleen Perry, alleging the motorist failed to exercise standard care and skill required in operating a vehicle.

According to the complaint, on April 2, Applefieldwas riding her bicycle near Gulfport Boulevard South in St. Petersburg, when Perry negligently operated her motor vehicle, causing a collision with the plaintiff. As a result, Applefield sustained bodily injuries and resulting pain and suffering, disability, mental anguish, loss of earnings, loss of use of property, and/ or aggravation of a previous existing condition. 

The plaintiff alleges Perry failed to adequately maintain and operate her motor vehicle so as not to cause harm, and failed to be on a proper lookout for other individuals.

Applefield seeks trial by jury, damages in excess of $15,000, plus all taxable costs, pre-judgment interest and all other relief deemed proper by the court. She is represented by attorney Joseph A.
