CLEARWATER — A pedestrian is suing a paving contractor, alleging negligence led to the plaintiff breaking her foot.

Patricia Meri filed a complaint Dec. 6 in Pinellas Circuit Court against Ajax Paving Industries Inc., alleging the contractor failed to provide a safe and secure environment.

According to the complaint, on April 25, 2016, Meri was walking across Court Street and South East Avenue in Clearwater, when a drop in pavement in the last two lanes on South East Avenue caused her to fall and break her left foot.

As a result, Meri says she suffered pain, incurred medical expenses, a physical handicap, and her walking ability was impaired.

The plaintiff alleges Ajax Paving Industries failed to adequately maintain the premises and failed to warn pedestrians and others of the dangerous condition of the pavement.

Meri seeks trial by jury and damages that exceed $15,000. She is represented by attorney Andrew Stinnette of Dunedin.
