CLEARWATER — A Pinellas County man is suing a Largo pathology lab, alleging retaliation.
Jamie Thompson filed a complaint Nov. 29 in Pinellas Circuit Court against Integrated Regional Laboratories Pathology Services LLC, alleging his former employer failed to exercise reasonable care and caution for the safety of its workers .
According to the complaint, Thompson worked for Integrated as a lab assistant from May 2016 to June 22, 2017. On the latter date, Thompson says, he suffered damages from being terminated due to the defendant's retaliation against him by refusing to approve his university program, for which he was receiving tuition reimbursement.
The lawsuit states the termination was based on several complaints from Thompson about formaldehyde fumes in the lab.
The plaintiff alleges Integrated Regional Laboratories Pathology Services failed to provide a bio-hazard hood to protect employees from formaldehyde fumes and bio-hazardous specimens, failed to take any remedial action in response to Thompson's complaints, and retaliated against the plaintiff for engaging in a protected activity.
Thompson seeks trial by jury, damages of more than $15,000, lost wages, benefits, and other remuneration, other compensatory damages, court costs, attorney fees, expenses, and all further relief the court deems just. He is represented by attorney Donna V. Smith of Wenzel Fenton Cabassa PA in Tampa.
