Employee accuses transportation company of wrongful termination

Wrongful term 09

ORLANDO — An employee is suing a transportation company, alleging retaliation and wrongful termination.

Arleanna Pierre filed a complaint Nov. 6 in Orange County Circuit Court against Maruti Fleet & MGMT LLC , alleging violation of the coercion statute.

According to the complaint, Pierre began working for Maurti Flight on Jan. 18. Pierre says on June 25, she was grabbed on the arm by another driver from a company that contracted with the defendant. The suit says the other driver began scolding Pierre.

Pierre says she reported the incident and opened a worker's compensation claim. After the report, the suit says, Pierre's supervisors changed their behavior toward the her, followed by a change in her schedule to a shift she was unable to work. As a result, she was forced to resign June 29 because no shifts were available.

The plaintiff alleges Maruti Fleet & MGMT failed to protect employees from any harm during employment, failed to investigate the incident claim filed under Worker's Compensation claim and forced an employee to resign without valid reason.

Pierre seeks trial by jury, compensatory, consequential, and emotional damages, pre- and post-judgment interest, employment benefits, and all other relief the court deems just and proper. She is represented by attorneys Chad E. Levy and David Cozad of Law Offices of Levy & Levy PA in Sunrise.
