Patient alleges hospital failed to properly assist him from wheelchair

ORLANDO — A patient is suing an Ocoee medical facility, alleging failure to assist the plaintiff from a wheelchair.

Ceferino Maldonado filed a complaint Nov. 6 in Orange County Circuit Court against Orlando Health Central Inc., doing business as Health Central Hospital, alleging the defendant failed its duty to exercise reasonable care for the safety of the patient.

According to the complaint, on Oct. 25, 2016, Maldonado was in a wheelchair exiting the hospital as a patient when his foot became caught in the wheelchair leg rest and he fell. As a result the nurse's lack of care and attention, , Maldonado says he sustained physical injuries, aggravation of previously existing condition and the expense of hospitalization. 

The plaintiff alleges Health Central Hospital failed to adequately inspect the wheelchair to ascertain whether the wheelchair constituted a hazard and failed to correct or adequately correct the unreasonably dangerous condition of the equipment.

Maldonado seeks trial by jury, damages in excess of $15,000, plus interest and costs. He is represented by attorney Chad S. Lucas of Morgan & Morgan PA in Orlando.
