FORT LAUDERDALE — A Broward County couple is suing a Fort Lauderdale house or worship, alleging insufficient measures were taken to prevent injuries to the husband.

Freddie Olivo and Francis Olivo filed a complaint Nov. 1 in Broward County Circuit Court against Fort Lauderdale Rescue Tabernacle Inc. doing business as Faith Farm Ministries, alleging the religious organization failed to inspect, clean and warn invitees of the hazards posed by the dangerous condition of the premises.

According to the complaint, on June 13, 2015, the Olivos were at Faith Farm Ministries in Fort Lauderdale. The suit says Freddie Olivo suffered injuries when furniture fell on top of him due to rope that broke while an employee was tying down the furniture.

As a result, Freddie Olivo says he suffered grievous injuries and a physical handicap that impaired his ability to earn wages and deprived his wife Francis Olive the companionship and services of her husband.

The plaintiffs allege Faith Farm Ministries failed to properly train its employees and failed to provide the proper rules or procedures for handling furniture that could create an unreasonably dangerous conditions for patrons or invitees.

The Olivos seek trial by jury, damages in excess of the jurisdictional minimum of the court, costs of action, and all other relief as the court deems proper. They are represented by attorney Jermaine Thompson of Oakland Park.
