Orlando resident alleges insurance company breached policy

ORLANDO — An Orlando property owner is suing an insurance company, alleging refusal to provide proper coverage.

Luis Cedeno Rivera filed a complaint Oct. 24 in Orange County Circuit Court against Security First Insurance Company, alleging failure to honor its contractual obligation and pay for the damages to the insured property.

According to the complaint, on April 12, Rivera suffered property loss at 427 Faber Drive, Orlando, due to a water discharge in the kitchen. Rivera said he was an insured Security First client at the time of loss and had paid insurance premiums but was rejected for coverage.

The plaintiff alleges Security First Insurance rejected the total amount of damages and tendered payment of insurance proceeds that was lower than as agreed to in the insurance contract.

Rivera seeks trial by jury, damages greater $15,000, plus court costs, prejudgment interest and attorney fees. He is represented by attorneys Jonathan Drake and Manuel L. Iravedra of Strems Law Firm in Coral Gables.
