CLEARWATER — A Pinellas County woman is suing a fitness company, alleging pregnancy discrimination, gender discrimination, and violation of the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA).

Gwendolyn Call filed a complaint Oct. 24 in Pinellas Circuit Court against Life Time Fitness Inc., alleging violation of employees to family and medical leave.

According to the complaint, Call began working for the defendant in December 2015 and she informed Life Time Fitness when she became pregnant in June 2016. On Dec. 29, 2016, Call says she suffered irreparable injury and monetary damages, as a result of Life Time Fitness' discriminatory practices of interfering with her right to FMLA leave for her high-risk pregnancy and subsequent unlawful termination.

The plaintiff alleges Life Time Fitness engaged in reckless disregard of her legal rights under the FMLA, and retaliated against Call for exercising her FMLA rights.

Call seeks trial by jury, damages of more than $15,000, back pay and benefits, interest, front pay and benefits, compensatory and punitive damages, costs, attorney fees, injunctive relief and all other relief the court deems just. She is represented by attorneys Wolfgang M. Florin, Christopher D. Gray and Robin M. Orosz of Florin, Gray, Bouzas, Owens LLC in Lutz.
