Patient alleges medical professionals' negligence led to suffering

Medical malpractice 08

CLEARWATER — A Pinellas County woman is suing a doctor and medical facilities, alleging negligence.

Patricia Cree filed a complaint Oct. 24 in Pinellas Circuit Court against Dr. John B. Pope , Healthpoint Medical Group Inc., and Baycare Health System Inc., doing business as St. Joseph’s Hospital, alleging they failed to exercise standard care and skill required of medical providers and facilities.

According to the complaint, Cree had hip replacement surgery in 2007 and was diagnosed with aseptic necrosis of the femoral head by other medical providers. Cree says because of the defendants, she suffered legally cognizable damages, including physical pain and suffering, medical and travel expenses, emotional distress, pharmaceutical expenses, wage loss, and dependency on narcotics and pain medication, as a result of a breach of standards of professional care in surgery and treatment.

The plaintiff alleges Dr. Pope failed to recommend and implement treatment procedures that were in Cree's best interest and led her to believe that she was receiving proper care that caused a delay in her ability to undergo future surgeries to correct her injuries.

Cree seeks trial by jury, all general, special, incidental and consequential damages of more than $15,000, plus costs of action and all further relief the court deems necessary. She is represented by attorney Donald J. Schutz of St. Petersburg.
