Nightclub operator blamed for catastrophic injuries

Car accident 03

ORLANDO — An Orange County woman is suing an Orlando nightclub operator, alleging negligence in the vehicle crash injuries that left the plaintiff a paraplegic.

Sade Butler filed a complaint Oct. 17 in Orange County Circuit Court against Hub City Enterprises Inc., alleging the Orlando nightclub operator failed to follow applicable safety guidelines and regulations.

According to the complaint, on Dec, 2, 2015, Butler was rendered paraplegic at the age of 25 due to a vehicle crash at East Colonial Drive and North Mills Avenue in Orlando, caused by Derrick Frierson, a drunk driver. The suit says Butler, who was a passenger in the car that was struck, sustained severe catastrophic bodily injuries, suffered from disability, disfigurement, mental anguish, incurred medical expenses, lost earnings, and will continue to suffer these losses in the future.

The suit says Hub City allowed Frierson, a highly intoxicated and dangerous customer, to drive from its place of business, ultimately ramming his vehicle into the rear of another vehicle at 55 m.p.h.

The plaintiff alleges Hub City Enterprises allowed an intoxicated customer to leave the establishment unaided and unable to provide for his own well-being and safety, failed to assist an intoxicated customer in any way or discourage him from proceeding to operate a motor vehicle.

Butler seeks trial by jury, damages in excess of $15,000 exclusive of interest, court costs and attorney fees. She is represented by attorneys David A. Paul and J. Scott Murphy of Paul & Perkins PA in Orlando.
