Customer blames St. Petersburg yoga studio, owners for injuries

CLEARWATER — A customer is suing a St. Petersburg yoga studio and owners, alleging negligence led to the plaintiff suffering severe shoulder injuries.

Shiela Maphet filed a complaint Oct. 19 in Pinellas County Circuit Court against The Body Electric Yoga Company, RMP Properties, Inc., Robert E. Ponath, Patricia L. Ponath and Mary C. Ponath, alleging they failed to maintain the yoga studio in a safe condition in compliance with applicable building codes.

According to the complaint, on Dec. 10, 2016, Maphet sustained severe injuries to her shoulder at the yoga studio, 685 30th Ave. N. St. Petersburg as she fell while attempting to enter the exercise classroom. The suit says Maphet was required to undergo surgery and caused to suffer additional pain, suffering and other losses in the future.

The plaintiff alleges the defendants failed to warn business invitees of the dangerous, abrupt 6- to 8-inch drop of the floor entering the classroom.

Maphet seeks trial by jury, damages of more than $15,000, interest, attorney fees, court costs and all other relief the court consider just and proper. She is represented by attorney Michael J. Boyle of LeavenLaw in St. Petersburg.
