CLEARWATER — A mother is suing Publix, alleging its negligence caused her daughter to be injured.

Elvira Jusovic filed a complaint on Sept. 27, in the Pinellas Circuit Court against Publix Super Markets Inc. alleging the retail store failed to use due care in maintaining its property in a safe condition.

According to the complaint, on May 22,Jusovic's minor child sustained severe injuries at the Publix at 7999 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Drive, St. Petersburg, when she slipped and fell from a puddle of water leaking from a nearby cooler. The suit says the water was negligently allowed to exist and remain on the floor by Publix employees.

The plaintiff alleges Publix Super Markets negligently permitted such a dangerous condition on its premises that can cause harm to invitees, and failed to inspect, discover and correct the dangerous condition.

Jusovic seeks trial by jury, compensatory damages in excess of $15,000, exclusive of interest and costs. She is represented by attorney Joshalyn D. Shocklee of Shocklee Paolino in St. Petersburg.
