EMP Industries alleges individual violated trade secrets acts

TAMPA – A Pinellas County employer claims a former employee misappropriated trade secrets.

EMP Industries Inc. filed a complaint on Feb. 13 in the Tampa for the Middle District of Florida against Matthew Kress alleging violation of the Defend Trade Secrets Act the Florida Uniform Trade Secrets Act and other counts.

According to the complaint, Kress was hired by the plaintiff has a manager of operations and sales manager in 2014 and that he signed a nondisclosure agreement. The suit states Kress resigned without notice or explanation in January 2016. The plaintiff holds Kress responsible because the defendant allegedly misappropriated trade secrets from the plaintiff, including forwarding its customer's proposals using his personal email.

The plaintiff seeks compensatory damages, interest and any other relief as the court deems just. It is represented by Phyllis J. Towzey of Phyllis J. Towzey PA in St. Petersburg.
