Regional Acceptance Corp. accused of harassing woman with collection calls

Phone 09

ORLANDO – A Brevard County consumer claims that a debt collector harassed her with frequent collection calls.

Valerie Dominguez filed a complaint on Jan. 25 in the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Florida, Orlando Division against Regional Acceptance Corp. alleging violation of the Telephone Consumer Protection Act and the Florida Consumer Collection Practices Act.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that beginning April 2016, she suffered from harassment, stress, embarrassment, loss of privacy and reputation caused by defendant's phone calls and collection efforts in its attempt to collect on an alleged debt. The plaintiff holds Regional Acceptance Corp. responsible because the defendant allegedly called plaintiff with such frequency meant to abuse or harass, unlawfully utilized an automatic dialer and automated voice, and contacted plaintiff without prior express consent.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks judgment against defendant, statutory, punitive, actual and treble damages, enjoinder from further violations, costs, interest, attorney's fees, and other relief the court may deem just. She is represented by Jared M. Lee of Morgan & Morgan Tampa PA in Orlando.
