WEST PALM BEACH – The owner of several drug and alcohol addiction treatment centers that temporarily shut down in 2015 alleges its competitors hijacked its website.
Unity Recovery Center Inc. filed a complaint on Feb. 1 in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida against Strawberry Fields Treatment Center LLC; Florida Rehabilitation and Recovery Services LLC, doing business as Strawberry Fields Treatment; and The Renew Counseling Center Inc., doing business as Rock Recovery Center citing copyright infringement.
According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that it suffered damages to its business as well as its reputation. The plaintiff holds Strawberry Fields Treatment Center LLC; Florida Rehabilitation and Recovery Services LLC, doing business as Strawberry Fields Treatment; and The Renew Counseling Center Inc., doing business as Rock Recovery Center, responsible because the defendants allegedly overtook plaintiff's rehabflorida.com domain, linked it to their website and modified plaintiff's copyrighted content without permission.
The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks enjoin the defendant, award profits to the plaintiff, punitive damages, statutory damages, all legal fees and any other relief as this court deems just. It is represented by Juan Martinez of GrayRobinson P.A. in Miami.
