Consumer files suit against Kohls over alleged frequency of collection calls

OCALA – A Homosassa consumer claims Kohl's Department Stores Inc. unlawfully called her more than 150 times to collect an alleged debt.

Sandra Laurentano filed a complaint on Jan. 23 in the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Florida, Ocala Division against Kohl's Department Stores Inc. alleging violation of the Telephone Consumer Protection Act.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that in November 2015, she suffered damages upon receiving incessant calls from the defendant in its attempt to collect an alleged debt. The plaintiff holds Kohl's Department Stores Inc. responsible because the defendant allegedly called plaintiff with such frequency meant to abuse or harass, contacted plaintiff without prior express consent and unlawfully utilized an automatic dialer and automated voice.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks judgment against defendant for statutory, punitive and actual damages, costs, interest, attorneys' fees, and other relief the court may deem just. She is represented by Stefan A. Alvarez and William Peerce Howard of The Consumer Protection Firm PLLC in Tampa.
