FORT LAUDERDALE – A Hillsborough County man alleges a cruise line sent him to a hospital with questionable medical practices after he was injured on the ship.
James Baer filed a complaint on Jan. 26 in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida, Fort Lauderdale Division against Silversea Cruises LTD alleging negligence.
According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on Jan. 6, 2015, he broke his leg when he fell while on a cruise with the defendant. He alleges he was sent by the defendant to a hospital in Mexico that had a warning issued for it by the U.S. Consulate for questionable practices. He alleges the hospital's medical personnel committed medical malpractice during his surgery there and he had to further undergo more surgeries and treatments.
The plaintiff holds Silversea Cruises LTD responsible because the defendant allegedly allowed the plaintiff to be sent to a medical facility that could not provide proper medical care. He alleges he has suffered damages of more than $400,000 in medical bills as a result.
The plaintiff seeks all damages and cost, interest and any other relief as the court deems just. He is represented by Paul E. Parrish and Michael J. Labbee of Quarles & Brady LLP in Tampa.
