Woman alleges Sonata Villages terminated her in retaliation

Wrongful term 13

BUSHNELL – A Marion County woman alleges she was terminated in retaliation for complaining about her former employer's alleged violation of a wage law.

Kristine Harper filed a complaint on Jan. 17 in the 5th Judicial Circuit of Florida - Sumter County against Sonata Villages I LLC, doing business as Serenades in the Villages, alleging violation of the Fair Labor Standards Act.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that she worked for more than 40 hours per week as a director of wellness for the defendant without being paid the appropriate wages equal to the total time she worked. The plaintiff holds Sonata Villages I LLC responsible because the defendant allegedly terminated plaintiff's employment as retaliation for complaining about the alleged FLSA violations.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks lost wages, benefits, liquidated damages, all legal fees plus interest and any other relief as the court deems just. She is represented by Joseph C. Shoemaker of Bogin, Munns & Munns PA in Leesburg.
