Phone 04

FORT LAUDERDALE – A Lauderhill woman claims a debt collector has contacted her repeatedly for a debt she does not owe.

Bassey S. Bassey filed a complaint on Dec. 6 in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida, Fort Lauderdale Division against Zakheim & Lavrar P.A. alleging violation of the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, the Florida Consumer Collection Practices Act and the Telephone Consumer Protection Act.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that since 2012, the defendant has been contacting her to collect a debt she claims she does not owe. The plaintiff holds Zakheim & Lavrar P.A. responsible because the defendant allegedly used an automatic telephone dialing system to call plaintiff's phone without consent and for purportedly using harassing and abusive tactics to collect a debt.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks injunction against the defendant, statutory damages, actual damages, all legal fees and any other relief as the court deems just. She is represented by John P. Murray of Hyslip & Taylor LLC LPA in Coral Gables.
