BARTOW — A Florida motorist is suing a Canadian driver, alleging the defendant's negligence caused a crash that injured the plaintiff.
Doug Sheehan filed a lawsuit Nov. 23 in Polk County Circuit Court against Ronald Jones of Ontario, alleging the defendant failed to exercise standard care with his vehicle.
According to the complaint, on Feb. 9, 2014, Sheehan was operating a motor vehicle on North Socrum Loop near Interstate Highway 4 in Lakeland. The suit says Jones negligently operated his vehicle so that it collided into Sheehan's car.
The lawsuit states the crash caused Sheehan to sustain permanent injuries, physical and mental pain and suffering, disability, disfigurement, mental anguish, inconvenience, loss of capacity for the enjoyment of life, aggravation of an existing condition, medical expenses, loss of earnings, loss of ability to earn money and loss of ability to lead and enjoy a normal life.
The plaintiff alleges Jones failed to adequately maintain and operate a motor vehicle so as not to cause harm, and failed to be on a proper lookout for other vehicles.
Sheehan seeks trial by jury, damages of at least $15,000 and all other relief deemed proper by the court. He is represented by attorney Michael A. Mandeville of Winter Park.
