Aetna sued over alleged denial of disability benefits

FLORIDA — An employee is suing Aetna Life Insurance Co., an insurance firm, citing alleged breach of contract.

Frances Van Gorp filed a complaint on Oct. 20, in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida against Aetna Life Insurance Co. alleging that the insurance firm denied plaintiff's claim for disability benefits.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that, in May 2015, she became disabled due to several medical condition including chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and was initially approved for short term disability benefits but was denied when she applied for long term disability benefits. The plaintiff holds Aetna Life Insurance Co. responsible because the defendant allegedly denied plaintiff's application for long term disability benefits despite being disabled according to the terms of the plan.

The plaintiff seeks disability benefits due to the plaintiff plus interest, disgorgement, all legal fees and any other relief this court deems just. She is represented by Alicia Paulino-Grisham and Maggie Smith of DI Law Group in Hollywood.
