Former domestics claim employer violated wage laws

MIAMI — Two former live-in domestics are suing an employer, alleging violation of wage laws.

Jorge Guimera and Jersson Contreras filed a complaint on Oct. 17 in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida Miami Division against Katha Darach Sheehan, alleging that the employer failed to fairly compensate the plaintiffs.

According to the complaint, the plaintiffs allege that Sheehan paid them $5 per hour while, more the $3 below the legal minimum hourly wage, and also charged them rent. The plaintiffs holds Sheehan responsible for allegedly violating the minimum-wage law.

The plaintiffs request a trial by jury and seek actual damages, unpaid wages plus interest, liquidated damages, all legal fees and any other relief as theis court deems just. They are represented by R. Martin Saenz of Saenz & Anderson, PLLC in Aventura.
