Starboard Cruise Services Inc. accused of terminating employee for taking medical leave

MIAMI – A Miami-Dade County man alleges that his employer terminated him in retaliation for taking a medical leave.

Yaosmel Baro filed a complaint on Oct. 17 in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida, Miami Division against Starboard Cruise Services Inc. citing the Family and Medical Leave Act.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that he was terminated from his employment in August when he requested for time off due to health reasons. The plaintiff holds Starboard Cruise Services Inc. responsible because the defendant allegedly terminated plaintiff's employment in violation of the FMLA.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks compensation for lost wages and benefits, reinstatement, back pay plus interest, front pay, liquidated damages, all legal fees and any other relief as the court deems just. He is represented by Luis A. Cabassa of Wenzel Fenton Cabassa PA in Tampa.
