Woman alleges Credit Control terminated her while on medical leave

Wrongful term 03

TAMPA – A woman alleges she was terminated in retaliation by her Hillsborough County employer for taking a medical leave.

Troyvonne Dawkins filed a complaint on Sept. 27 in the 13th Judicial Circuit Court of Hillsborough County against Credit Control LLC alleging violation of the Family and Medical Leave Act.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that in April, she requested leave due to a serious health condition through June 27. The suit states the defendant emailed her on June 20 telling her she must return to work on June 23 with medical clearance or would be terminated. She alleges she was unable to obtain medical clearance on a short notice and was terminated.

The plaintiff holds Credit Control LLC responsible because the defendant allegedly retaliated against plaintiff by terminating her employment and interfered with plaintiff's rights under the FMLA.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks judgment against defendant; compensate for lost wages, benefits, and remuneration; reinstatement to a comparable position; front pay; damages; costs; attorney's fees; and further relief as the court deems just. She is represented by Matthew K. Fenton of Wenzel Fenton Cabassa PA in Tampa.
