Woman claims Liberty Life Assurance Co. of Boston wrongfully denied her disability payments

Insurance 03

MIAMI — A woman has filed suit against an insurance company for allegedly wrongfully denying her long-term disability payments.

Lou Ann Bishop filed a complaint Sept. 19 in U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida against Liberty Life Assurance Co. of Boston, alleging that the insurance firm denied the plaintiff's claims for disability benefits.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that in May 2013, she became disabled and was initially paid her disability benefits until they were terminated May 2015. The plaintiff holds Liberty Life Assurance Co. of Boston responsible because the defendant allegedly upheld its decision to terminate the plaintiff's long-term disability benefits despite her still being disabled according to the terms of the plan.

The plaintiff seeks payment of disability benefits due to the plaintiff, reinstatement, all legal fees, interest and any other relief as the court deems just. She is represented by Stephen F. Jessup of Attorneys Dell and Schaefer in Hollywood.
