Woman claims Reliance Standard Life Insurance wrongfully terminated benefits

Insurance 10

MIAMI – A Medtronic Inc. employee alleges her Pennsylvania-based insurer wrongfully terminated her disability benefits.

Christi House filed a complaint on Sept. 16 in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida against Reliance Standard Life Insurance Co. citing the Employee Retirement Income Security Act.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that in Aug. 12, 2014, she was initially paid disability benefits until the defendant terminated the benefits in July 2015 over claims that she was no longer disabled. The plaintiff holds Reliance Standard Life Insurance Co. responsible because the defendant allegedly upheld its decision to deny further benefits to plaintiff despite still being disabled according to the terms of the plan.

The plaintiff seeks payment of disability benefits due to plaintiff, reinstatement, all legal fees and interest and any other relief as the court deems just. She is represented by Stephen F. Jessup of Attorneys Dell and Schaefer Chartered in Hollywood.
