FORT LAUDERDALE – A Broward County resident claims a debt collector has called her more than 500 times.

Christine Longa filed a complaint on Sept. 2 in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida, Fort Lauderdale Division against Portfolio Recovery Associates LLC alleging violation of the Telephone Consumer Protection Act and the Florida Consumer Collection Practices Act.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that from March 2013 through February, she suffered damages from receiving collection calls on an average of once per day from the defendant in an attempt to collect an alleged debt. The plaintiff holds Portfolio Recovery Associates LLC responsible because the defendant allegedly used an automatic telephone dialing system in contacting plaintiff and continued to call despite her requests to stop.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks statutory damages, punitive damages, actual damages, interest, all legal fees and any other relief as the court deems just. She is represented by Jared M. Lee of Morgan & Morgan Tampa PA in Orlando.
