Federal government alleges Marion County resident's loans remain unpaid

OCALA – A Marion County woman is accused of defaulting on student loans almost 30 years ago.

United States of America filed a complaint on Aug. 24 in the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Florida, Ocala Division against Jowanna M. Baker, alleging that the individual failed to settle her debt to plaintiff.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that Baker failed to pay plaintiff for the principal amount of her debt plus interest for two student loans through the U.S. Department of Education. The suit states the defendant defaulted on the loans in 1988.

The plaintiff seeks $10,724.39, all legal fees and any other relief as this court deems just. It is represented by Steven M. Davis of Becker & Poliakoff PA in Coral Gables.
