FORT MYERS — A former bartender has filed suit against a bar and grill after she allegedly was never paid an hourly wage, only tips.

Brandy Bennett filed a complaint on Aug. 24 in the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Florida, Fort Myers Division, against JDC Ventures LLC, doing business as Caloosahatchee Jack's Bar & Grill, and Jack D. Cook, alleging that the employer failed to fairly compensate the plaintiff for her work.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that between 2011 and March 2016, she worked without being paid the proper minimum wage according to the Fair Labor and Standards Act. The plaintiff holds JDC Ventures, LLC and Jack D. Cook responsible because the defendant allegedly failed to pay the plaintiff the applicable minimum wage.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks judgment against the defendant for actual and liquidated damages, all legal fees and any other relief as the court deems appropriate. She is represented by Angeli Murthy of Morgan & Morgan P.A. in Plantation.
