WEST PALM BEACH — James Graver is using his experience defending insurance companies to help clients on the other side of the aisle.

Graver joined the Law Offices of Craig Goldenfarb, P.A in June as a personal injury trial lawyer. He previously spent 14 years representing insurance companies in similar cases, and said his experience has already proven beneficial to the firm.

“My entire career was on the defense side, so I’m very in tune to how insurance carriers think and how they evaluate cases, and how defense lawyers evaluate cases,” Graver told the Florida Record.

Graver said there’s an additional challenge because plaintiffs have the burden of proof, which he did not have when defending insurance companies.

“You need to look for ways to prove your case versus ways to poke holes in your case,” Graver said. “Doing this type of work is always want I’ve wanted to do.”

Goldenfarb said Graver was a natural choice to join his firm.

“James is the kind of lawyer who knows that there is always something new to learn in litigation,” Goldenfarb said in a news release. “A good lawyer is constantly learning, and the eagerness with which he approaches his work is what separates him from others.”

Graver said a family friend named Mark Stokes, who worked as a personal injury lawyer, inspired him to follow the same career path.

“I looked up to him and admired him, and he was pivotal in my decision to become a lawyer … he even wrote a recommendation for me to get into law school,” Graver said.

Graver holds a bachelor’s degree from Florida State University and a law degree from St. Thomas University. He lives in Boynton Beach with his wife and two children. He enjoys spending time with his family and supporting a local non-profit organization that shelters homeless and abused children.
