Carnival accused of negligence after woman alleges injures after fall

Cruise 06

MIAMI – A Lee County woman claims a light strip used in a cruise ship's theater caused her injuries.

Sharon Douglas filed a complaint on July 28 in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida, Miami Division against Carnival Corp., individually and doing business as Carnival Cruise Lines, alleging negligence.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on Aug. 2, 2015, she suffered injuries when the heel of her shoe caught in one of the raised light strips on the stairs in the ship's Amber Theater, causing her to trip and fall. The plaintiff holds Carnival Corp. responsible because the defendant allegedly failed to inspect the condition of the light strip that is found on the edge of the stairs or provide adequate warning regarding the condition of the light strip.

The plaintiff seeks damages, interest, all legal fees and any other relief as the court deems just. She is represented by Frank D. Butler of Frank D. Butler PA in Pinellas Park.
