Best Buy accused of patent infringement

Patents 06

MIAMI – A Texas company has filed suit against an electronics chain retailer over allegations its advertising uses patented technology.

Symbology Innovations LLC filed a complaint on July 20 in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida against Best Buy Co. Inc., Bestbuy.com LLC and Best Buy Stores LP alleging patent infringement.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that it suffered damages as the result of its patented technologies being used without its authority. The plaintiff holds Best Buy Co. Inc., Bestbuy.com LLC and Best Buy Stores LP responsible because the defendants allegedly incorporates Quick Response Codes on their products, which the plaintiff claims directly infringes one or more claims of its patents.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks to enjoin the defendants, award plaintiff royalties, damages, all legal fees and interest and any other relief as the court deems just. It is represented by Joel B. Rothman and Jerold I. Schneider of Schneider Rothman Intellectual Property Law Group PLLC in Boca Raton.
