MIAMI – A Florida designer of patterns for digital embroidery machines alleges an Illinois corporation and its officers have taken its designs and sold them as their own.

Embroitique LLC filed a complaint on July 6 in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida against Stitchtopia Inc.; Amber Stegar, also known as Leanne Hawthorne and Amber Sweeney; Alan Affelt; Melanie Millett; and Melissa Bastow alleging copyright infringement and other counts.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that it suffered damages to its business as a result of its proprietary information and copyrighted designs for digital embroidery machines being used to directly compete with its business. The plaintiff holds the defendants responsible because the defendants allegedly used plaintiff's designs and sold them as their own designs.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks award of damages, all legal fees and any other relief as the court deems just. It is represented by Michelle Cohen Levy of The Law Office of Michelle Cohen Levy PA in Fort Lauderdale.
