MIAMI – A North Carolina woman alleges an employee of the cruise ship the Norwegian Getaway sexually harassed her.
Jane Doe filed a complaint on July 5 in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida against NCL (Bahamas) LTD alleging gross negligence, negligent hiring and training and other counts.
According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on Feb. 21, she was sexually harassed by one of the defendant's male employees who was bringing her luggage in her room. The suit states the employee asked if the plaintiff would meet him later and when she refused, he made sexual advances and touched her inappropriately. She claims she later contacted security.
The plaintiff holds NCL (Bahamas) LTD responsible because the defendant allegedly failed to provide adequate supervision to its employees and failed to make sure to provide adequate securities to its passengers.
The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks general and special damages in a sum of more than $75,000 plus interest, all legal fees and any other relief as the court deems just. She is represented by Anthony C. Hevia and Victor A. Ruiz of Trujillo Vargas Gonzalez & Hevia LLP in Coral Gables.
