MIAMI – A Miami-Dade man has filed a class-action complaint alleging that a debt collector made false representations in an attempt to collect a debt.
Mario Ledon filed a complaint on behalf of others similarly situated on June 20 in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida against Florida Opportunity Real Estate Investment LLC alleging violation of the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that he suffered damages as a result of threats and misrepresentations from the defendant in an attempt collect an alleged debt. The plaintiff holds Florida Opportunity Real Estate Investment LLC responsible because the defendant allegedly has not registered as a consumer collection agency in the state and is therefore not legally able to collect debt.
The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks actual and statutory damages, all legal fees and any other relief as the court deems just. He is represented by Scott D. Owens of Scott D. Owens PA in Hollywood.
